Gulbarga University Holds 42nd Convocation; Karnataka Governor Calls for 100% Literacy by 2047

 Kalaburagi / Bangalore, (Karnataka Information): At the 42nd annual convocation of Gulbarga University, the Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot, delivered a compelling speech urging the nation to strive for 100% literacy by 2047, the centenary of India’s independence. The event took place at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hall, where the Governor emphasized the pivotal role of education in shaping India’s future.


"India, once known as the 'Golden Bird' for its wealth and prosperity, must now aim to become a global leader once again. To achieve this, we must prioritize education, ensuring that every citizen is literate by 2047," Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot stated. He pointed out the current literacy rates, noting that while 75% of men are literate, the percentage is lower among women. He stressed that education is the key to success and must be given the highest priority.

He further urged the university community to contribute to the vision of a prosperous India, noting that, "India currently ranks fifth in global economic progress, and our Prime Minister is committed to advancing our nation to the third position. Achieving this goal requires the collective effort of all citizens."
                                

In addition to his focus on education, Governor Gehlot called for environmental action through the 'Vriksharopan Mahabhiyan' initiative. He encouraged universities across Karnataka to plant saplings as part of the 'Ek  Paid Ma Ke Naam' campaign, which aims to protect the environment and reduce air pollution. "These plants should be nurtured with the same care that mothers provide for their children," he advised.

During the convocation, honorary doctorate degrees were awarded to Advocate Archana Pradeepa Tiwari, social activist Lakshmana Dasti, and agriculturist and education entrepreneur Lingaraja Basavarajappa Appa. Governor Gehlot, who also serves as the Chancellor of Gulbarga University, conferred the degrees.
                      

The convocation was attended by several notable figures, including Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Director at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, ( Headquarters, Goa ), Gulabarga University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Agasar were present in the convocation.
