Bangalore: The Hon'ble Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, highlighted the significance of Indian music as a cornerstone of cultural and traditional expression during the opening ceremony of Swara Foundation's "Sangeetotsava" at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore. In his address, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot stated, "The art of music and dance has been an important part of India's rich cultural and traditional heritage since ancient times. Indian music serves as the foundation for religious inspiration, rituals, and cultural expression. It encompasses various styles, with Indian classical and folk music being particularly prominent. Music, dance, and drama complement each other, with music holding the foremost place. It provides an experience of human life, offering happiness, joy, and divine bliss."

The Governor praised Karnataka for preserving its cultural heritage while embracing modernity. He acknowledged the contributions of Karnatic music legends Thyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Shyam Shastri, known as the "Trimurti," and Purandara Das, considered the father of Carnatic music. He also recognized Venkata Lakshmamma, Maya Rao, Vaman Rao, Sadashiva Rao, Subbaiah Naidu, Hukkeri Balappa, P. Kalingarao, and Anantarao Swamy for their contributions to Indian music, dance, and theatre. The Governor particularly lauded Dr. Gangubai Hangal for her pivotal role in popularizing Khayal singing in independent India.
During the event, the Swara Foundation honored Mrs. Bharatidevi Rajaguru and renowned Hindustani singers Padmashree Venkatesh Kumar and Pandit Vinayak Thoravi for their dedication to music. The Governor congratulated them and wished them good health and long life.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot also commended Dr. Muddu Mohan, Managing Trustee of Swara Foundation and a disciple of Rajguruji and Gangubai Hangal, for his passion and commitment to Hindustani classical music, highlighting his exemplary role as an Indian Administrative Service officer.
The event saw the presence of notable personalities, including Jnanpeeth Awardee Dr. Chandrashekhara Kambara, Justice Hon'ble Shri Krishna Dikshit, retired IAS officer Shri Chiranjeev Singh, Kannada Sahitya Parishad President Nadoja Dr. Mahesh Joshi, and others.
