The Ministry of Education in association with AMC Institutions in Bengaluru hosted a two-day boot camp on Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship for students and educators at their Bengaluru campus starting from Thursday.
Mr. Manjunath HS, the General Manager at Toyota Kirloskar Motors Private Limited and the chief guest of the programme, emphasized the importance of teaching students about the Kaizen concept. He explained that Kaizen is a business philosophy focused on continuously improving all functions within an organization, involving all employees from top management to frontline workers. This concept extends to processes such as purchasing and logistics, spanning across organizational boundaries into the broader supply chain. Kaizen, rooted in the principles of lean manufacturing, aims to streamline operations by enhancing standardized programs and eliminating waste and redundancies. Originating in Japanese businesses post-World War II. Over time, Kaizen has been adopted globally and applied beyond traditional business settings to enhance efficiency and productivity in various domains.
According to Pradeep Dhage, the Assistant Director of Innovation at the Ministry of Education, the camp is currently being held in nine major cities as part of its initial phase. In the subsequent phase, the camp will expand to 15 cities, benefiting around 40 crore students. Dhage emphasized the importance of private organizations contributing to the success of the program, noting that many private institutions possess state-of-the-art techniques that could significantly enhance the initiative.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Kumar K, Principal of AMC Engineering College, expressed the importance of fostering creativity and innovation among students. He remarked, "Many students are taught that 'A' is just for 'Apple,' but it can also represent 'Ambika' or 'America.' Encouraging this kind of creative thinking is crucial. We need to provide students with a roadmap for their lives. Nowadays, many aspire to become entrepreneurs. Looking back at previous generations, farmers and doctors often turned into entrepreneurs in their own right. When it comes to technology, company-specific training is essential. Technology is constantly evolving, and we must adapt and adopt new practices. It's not just a need but a necessity to instill these practices."
Dr. Kumar also highlighted the shift in education paradigms, stating, "In the past, there was a great importance for womb education. Now, in this technological era, education starts from school. Students used to lack technological depth even in pre-university and early engineering years. They would undergo training post-engineering to bridge the gap, but now, companies conduct campus interviews and provide training right away. This change has led to incubation, internships, and certification programs."
He emphasized the importance of initiatives like Skill India, Entrepreneur India, and Startup India, noting their role in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. Dr. Kumar credited the success of these initiatives to policies post-globalization, which have encouraged innovation and entrepreneurship. He stressed that innovation and entrepreneurship don't happen in isolation but require a structured approach with best practices and mentorship.
This boot camp marks just the beginning of our efforts to transform students' lives positively. We are committed to creating a skilled workforce and harnessing the potential of our youth for national progress.
AMC Institutions Chairman Dr. KR Paramahamsa, Mr Rahul Kalluri (Executive Vice President of AMC Institutions), Dr Mohan Babu GN (Director, AMC Engineering College), staff, teachers and students were present.
