 Bengaluru – Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, officially commenced the 69th Wildlife Week-2023 with great fervor by flagging off the "Vintage Vehicle Drive for Wildlife Conservation." This significant event, orchestrated by the Forest Department, unfolded on Sunday at the prestigious Raj Bhavan.



In his address, Governor Gehlot underscored the longstanding discourse on the safeguarding and preservation of animals, enshrined in ancient scriptures. Recognizing the enduring coexistence of humans and wildlife, he emphasized the pressing need for the conservation of these invaluable species, underscoring the pivotal role of thriving forests in this endeavor.

Governor Gehlot further lauded the exemplary efforts of the Karnataka State in forest conservation, proudly ranking first in the nation. He commended the dedicated work of the Karnataka government, particularly the Forest Department, in advancing these critical conservation initiatives.

Highlighting significant undertakings such as the 'Environment Protection Act,' 'Forest Protection Act,' 'National Wildlife Action Plan,' 'Project Tiger,' 'National Parks and Sanctuaries,' and 'Bio-Spatial Reserves for the protection of forests and wildlife in India,' Governor Gehlot underscored their instrumental role in rescuing species from the precipice of extinction.

In celebration of the 69th Wildlife Week's inauguration, the Karnataka Forest Department collaborated with the Federation of Historic Vehicles of India to orchestrate a landmark vintage vehicle drive. This historic convoy, comprised of meticulously preserved cars and motorcycles, serves as a poignant symbol of dedication to wildlife conservation. Governor Gehlot extended his heartfelt congratulations to the vehicle owners, expressing hope that these remarkable vintage vehicles will serve as catalysts for positive action in the realm of wildlife conservation.

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including Forest Minister Ishwar Khandre, President of the Historic Vehicles Association of India, Raviprakash, and DCF Shri. Prabhakar Priyadarshi.
