Bellary, July 13, 2023 - The Hon'ble Governor of Karnataka, Sri Thaawarchand Gehlot, graced the prestigious 11th convocation ceremony of Sri Krishnadevaraya University in Bellary.
Addressing the distinguished gathering, Governor Gehlot commended Sri Krishnadevaraya University for bestowing honorary degrees upon exceptional individuals who have made noteworthy contributions across various domains. He wholeheartedly congratulated these remarkable individuals, expressing his belief that they would continue their endeavors for the betterment of society and the nation at large.
Governor Gehlot emphasized that the purpose of education should extend beyond obtaining a degree. He highlighted that knowledge forms the bedrock upon which an individual's personality is shaped and stressed that education serves as the driving force for societal transformation.
Drawing inspiration from the renowned philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who asserted that education is essential for unlocking the human brain's potential, Governor Gehlot stated, "Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye," which signifies that knowledge liberates us from bondage and teaches us our responsibilities. He underscored that education is indispensable for leading a prosperous life and emphasized that the future of any country hinges on the educational achievements of its citizens.
Governor Gehlot acknowledged the significant role universities play in national development. He appealed to the university faculty to stay updated with evolving times and circumstances, and urged them to enlighten students about practical applications, social awareness, and new research advancements.
Citing Swami Vivekananda's belief in the importance of holistic education, which encompasses mental and intellectual development, Governor Gehlot called upon everyone to join forces in creating a New India - a self-reliant and great India. He emphasized the need to combine education, skills, and moral values to achieve this vision.
Highlighting the rich historical legacy of the region, Governor Gehlot acknowledged the establishment of Sri Krishnadevaraya University on this land of art and literature. He praised the university's adoption of the philosophies of the great socialist thinker, Samrat Raja Krishna Devaraya, renowned for his benevolence and generosity towards his subjects.
Governor Gehlot expressed immense pride in the remarkable progress India has achieved in all spheres over the past 75 years of independence, positioning the country's economy as the fifth largest worldwide. He identified the forthcoming 25 years as the "amrit kala" or a period of duty to propel India into the league of the world's leading nations. He urged everyone to embrace this responsibility and transform it into an opportunity, encouraging active participation from the youth.
Recognizing the pressing issue of environmental imbalance, Governor Gehlot stressed the collective responsibility of environmental protection, including water, forest, and air conservation. He urged individuals to inspire others to contribute to the nation's progress and strive towards keeping India at the forefront of developed nations.
Looking forward to the next 25 years, Governor Gehlot referred to it as the "amrit kala" or duty period, emphasizing the shared responsibility of elevating India to become one of the world's leading nations. He called upon the students to actively engage in public life, inspiring others to contribute to the nation's progress, and work towards building an inclusive, prosperous, and self-reliant India, known as "Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat," and "Atmanirbhar Bharat."
