The School of Public Health, JSS Medical College, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, organized an international symposium "Swasthyam 2023" on June 1st  and 2nd  2023, in collaboration with the Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII).

The resource persons were Assistant Vice Chancellor, Professors belonging to Public Health, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Disease & Internal Medicine, Psychology and Environmental Sciences. They belong to top 100 international universities like University of Arizona, Barry University, University of Illinois, University of Southern California and Florida International University. The participants were visiting from various states of India.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr. Surinder Singh, Honourable Vice Chancellor, JSS AHER and our chief guest Maj Gen (Prof) Atul Kotwal, SM, VSM (Retd) and the guest of Honour Dr. Umesh Kapil, President, Epidemiology Foundation of India, Secretary, National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. Other dignitaries on the dais included Dr. H Basavanagowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College, Dr. Purnima Madhivanan, Associate Professor, University of Arizona, and Dr. Anil S Bilimale, Chief MPH coordinator, School of Public Health, JSS MC and Ms. Poornima Jayakrishna, Administrative Officer, PHRII.

The Symposium was conducted in a Go Green initiative reducing carbon footprints by resorting to paper pens, mud cups, glass bottles, steel plates, etc.

This symposium witnessed the exchange of ideas, the forging of connections, and the sharing of ground- breaking research on maternal and child health, infectious diseases, psychology, social health, health system and policy research, air pollution, African spiritual life, and social initiatives presentations. Scientific paper presentations and poster presentations. Panel discussion on career opportunities in Public Health: Current and Future Perspectives was held to guide the upcoming public health aspirants.
