Rainbow Children's Hospital has launched a dedicated autism clinic called "Spectrum" at Marathahalli on Friday. This clinic has a team of experts such as Child Developmental Pediatricians, Pediatric Neurologists, Child Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Therapists. The clinic will focus on helping and treating children with autism.

Dr. Arvind Shenoi, Clinical Director of Neonatology and Pediatrics at Rainbow Children's Hospital, emphasized the importance of understanding and embracing different ways of thinking to release the true power of the autistic mind.
Dr. Rakshay Shetty, Head of Pediatric Intensive Care Services, added that the clinic will follow methodical, analytical, and novel approaches to treat autism, starting with consultations and assessments and designing an appropriate intervention plan. Spectrum will be a single point of contact for anything related to autism, from screening to early diagnosis and intervention to medical management of comorbidities and parental training and support.
According to Dr. Rachana G, a Developmental Pediatrician at Rainbow Children's Hospital, Spectrum will serve as a comprehensive resource for anything related to autism, offering screening, early diagnosis and intervention, medical management of comorbidities, and parental training and support, all in one place.
Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, a Consultant in Pediatric Neurology at the hospital, emphasized the importance of early intervention for improving a child's overall development. She also mentioned some common signs and symptoms of autism, such as failure to engage in typical babbling or pointing during infancy, lack of eye contact, no response to name calling, and difficulty interacting with peers.
Mr. Nithayananda P, Vice-President of Rainbow Children's Hospital, emphasized that the hospital has a complete holistic approach towards combating autism in any child.
The launch of Spectrum was attended by two chief guests, Kolli Kerthana, a Product Manager at Avaz Inc., and Jillian, a mother of two who has completed her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and holds teaching licenses for primary level education and teaching English as a Second Language. The guests stressed the importance of empowering, supporting, and advocating for children and families of all abilities.
The signs of Autism to look out for include failure to engage in typical babbling or pointing during infancy, lack of eye contact, no or poor response to calling their name, loss of previously acquired language or social skills, unusual responses to sensory input, unusual movements such as rocking, twirling or flapping arms, difficulty playing or interacting with peers, being aloof or refusing to be alone, speech delay, obsessive interest in a particular topic, and difficulty breaking from routine. Early intervention can provide many benefits for children with autism, such as improving overall development.
